The most challenging part of the install was the Cruise Control System, mainly because of the wires in the Di2 setup. The flare of the bar affects the shifter position slightly and pushes them inward. I went with a relatively conservative flat drop approach with the shifters mounted higher - similar to how I have them on my ‘cross bike. The bar itself is easy to fit, and the generous, super flat drops give you an easy baseline for where to position the bar. Nothing too intense, but considering the popularity of GRX and Shimano Di2 shifting, this should have come pre-drilled. I installed the Kitchen Sink Bar on a bike with Shimano Di2 and had to drill out a minor fitting at the end of the bar. Installing the Kitchen Sink Bar is reasonably straightforward, but some considerations must be made for wired electronic shifting and computer mounts after the fact. Redshift Kitchen Sink Handlebar installation The Really Long Bartape is a tacky, cushioned bar tape in a super long 315cm length that allows the user to wrap all the Cruise Control goodness into a visually appealing package. The Drop Grips are very similar to a popular ergonomic grip and attach to the drops just like a conventional grip. The Top Grips cover the tops of the bars to the shifter body and offer a little suspension to riding on the tops. The entire package includes the Cruise Control Grips System (top and drops grips) and Really Long Bartape (aptly named). This winged style grip enhancement for the Kitchen Sink Bar allows riders to add an ergonomic-style grip to both the bar ends and the tops. To add more compliance and the ability to truly sculpt your own bar adventure, the Redshift team developed its new Cruise Control Drop Bar Grip System. Pair that with the integrated “aero-loop” option, and you have tons of possible hand positions. The Kitchen Sink bars also have a 25° flare with 7° of back sweep, a 65-70mm reach, and a 20mm rise. This wide steering bar is a totally new animal available in 440, 470, and 500mm widths. The Kitchen Sink Handlebar first showed up on our radar early last year when the company teased a prototype and claimed it was “the ultimate gravel bar.” The bar is a very liberal take on what gravel riders want. We reviewed both the Shockstop stem and seat post and found that the products deliver as advertised. But those who took this gear to the unpaved soon found out what a difference the micro travel made. The company’s ShockStop stem and ShockStop seat post were briefly received with a roll of the eyes. Redshift isn’t new to the “that seems over-the-top” game. But in real life, it’s a comfortable, confidence-inspiring, must-have experience for the gravel explorer. On paper and in photos, this bar looks like too much to handle. Redshifts Kitchen Sink Handlebar struck me as one of those situations, with tons of hand positions and super flared with ultra-wide options. Initially, the design choices seem over-the-top, but after some time on suitable terrain, they turn out to be quite practical and comfortable. Along with the ShockStop Suspension Seatpost, this system works together to suspend the rider and smooth out rough terrain on the bike you already own, making your ride smoother, faster, and more comfortable.Variations on handlebars are coming fast and furious - with designs that, at first, can boggle the mind. The minimal design of the ShockStop Stem blends seamlessly with the aesthetic of modern bikes, while reducing fatigue and strain.
But that’s probably not so big a deal for most amateur memory makers.įor video novices and social media posters, there are easier and more intuitive free packages available than Shotcut (such as the aforementioned HitFilm and VideoPad). It’s also missing more flashy consumer features variously contained in apps like VideoPad, HitFilm Express, and DaVinci Resolve like VR, multicam editing, and motion tracking. For those used to operating in a Mac or Windows environment, the open source conventions and interface will take a bit of getting used to. Shotcut offers all the basic functionality of a good video app, though it does so with somewhat of a clunky feel. There’s also an analogous advanced export setting for reviewing drafts. Instead, it’s designed to be used alongside another feature called low-resolution proxy, which is still under development. This new feature is not presented as a be-all end-all for performance issues on its own, though. Preview scaling lets you set your video to preview at 360p (for a 1080p screen), 540p (for a high-density screen), and 720p (for 4K UHD footage). The idea is to edit your video at the same size as the program’s preview window. This is designed to take some of the load off your system by letting you lower the resolution as you add and remove certain clips, tracks, transitions, and special effects. One important feature added in the previous version was Preview Scaling. WebP, a format that supports animation and alpha transparency and creates smaller files while maintaining quality, has been added to Shotcut’s export function.įor a full list of changes for Shotcut 21, head over to the Shotcut Blog. LRV files as proxy videos, users with lower end systems have another option for improving performance (see the next section for an additional tip). It’s pretty slick and can add another dimension to action and outdoor videos. These can include parameters such as speed, distance and altitude. I found these elements more than sufficient for most consumer oriented short movies of friends, family, outings, and occasions.Ī speed adjustment has been added to the timeline in Shotcut 21 (Image credit: Theano Nikitas/Tom's Guide)Ī new GPS Text video filter allows users to add GPS data to videos. Some of these filters are simple presets while others, like the chroma key, are customizable. Shotcut comes with a moderate array of built-in filters divided into Favorites, Video only, and Audio only. Shotcut 21 review: Filters and transitions But after working in the program, it all becomes second nature. A history timeline makes it easy to keep track of everything you have done to your footage while an audio meter lets you monitor your levels.īecause Shotcut is open-source, there are a few weird things that Mac and Windows users may take some time getting used to – such as buttons that you think will toggle on and off but do not, or it can take several clicks to see a menu or set of filters. The app lets you create multiple tracks for audio and video, while conveniently located tools let you stitch it all together in any way you’d like by easily splitting, trimming, and snapping clips together. You can also switch background colors from dark, light, and system, plus the app supports external monitors. All panels are dockable - you can open and close panels at will or separate them from the application frame to focus on a single aspect of your project. The default layout is sparse and a bit text heavy, but you can use the top menu to switch out different workspaces - or create a custom one - that will make the program more comfortable. Watching an instructional video or two will go a long way in getting new users accustomed to this software’s conventions. Hover your mouse over a tool to reveal (albeit in tiny print), its function. It’s easy to learn, but most novices are not going to just jump right into the program and immediately find their way around. While it’s not as intuitive as Hitfilm or iMovie, anyone who is even vaguely familiar with non-linear video editing should be able to get the hang of Shotcut pretty quickly. The Shotcut interface is bare bones, but there’s plenty you can accomplish right from the timeline.
A good place to look out for them is at one of their favoured feeding trees, the broad-leaved aguacatillo, which produces a small avocado-like fruit. They can be easily identified by their jerky, undulating flight. In general, the birds tend to spend the nights up in the high forest and float across the road as dawn breaks, to spend the days in the trees below. The best time of year to visit is just before and just after the nesting season (between March & June), and the best time of day is sunrise. Quetzals are occasionally seen here but they’re extremely elusive. Two paths through the undergrowth from the road complete a circuit that takes you up into the woods above the reserve headquarters (where maps are available for US$0.75). The reserve covers a steep area of dense cloudforest, through which the Río Colorado cascades towards the valley floor, forming waterfalls and natural swimming pools. On the highway north to Cobán, just before the village of Purulhá, the Biotopo del Quetzal was established to protect the habitat of the endangered quetzal, Guatemala’s national bird (see The Resplendent Quetzal). The other big attractions are the quetzal sanctuary, on the western side of the Cobán highway, and the forested mountains, waterfalls and wildlife inside the Reserva Sierra de las Minas just to the east. The small towns of Salamá and San Jerónimo, situated on a flat-bottomed valley, have some intriguing historic sights, while to the west Rabinal and Cubulco boast interesting markets and host deeply traditional fiestas. Baja VerapazĪ dramatic mix of dry hills and fertile valleys, BAJA VERAPAZ is crossed by a skeletal road network. After five years the famous and invincible Achi were transformed into Spanish subjects, and the king of Spain renamed the province Verapaz, “True Peace”.ĭuring the colonial era the Verapaces remained isolated, their trade bypassing the capital by taking a direct route to the Caribbean along the Río Polochic and out through Lago de Izabal. By 1538 they had made considerable progress and converted large numbers of Maya. In 1537 Las Casas set out into the highlands, befriended the Achi chiefs and learnt the local dialects. Under the leadership of Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas, the Church made a deal with the conquistadors: if Alvarado would agree to keep all armed men out of the area for five years, the priests would bring it under control. The Catholic church, however, couldn’t allow so many heathen souls to go to waste. Alvarado’s Spanish army was unable to make any headway against them, and eventually he gave up trying to control the area, naming it tierra de guerra, the “land of war”. Long before the Conquest, local Achi Maya had earned themselves a reputation as the most bloodthirsty of all the tribes, said to sacrifice every prisoner they took. In the extreme northwest of the region, the astonishingly beautiful lake Laguna Lachúa, fringed by rainforest, is well worth the detour it takes to get there. From Chisec it’s a short hop to the extraordinary Candelaria caves and the nearby ruins of Cancuén. North of Cobán, a couple of wonderful natural attractions lie near the town of Chisec: the emerald lakes of Lagunas de Sepalau and the sink hole of Bombil Pek. Northeast of here, the exquisite natural bathing pools of Semuc Champey near Lanquín are surrounded by lush tropical forest and are a key travellers’ hangout. However, the hub of the region is Cobán in Alta Verapaz, a fairly attractive mid-sized mountain town with good accommodation and some very civilized coffeehouses and restaurants. Guatemala’s national bird, the quetzal can occasionally be seen in the cloudforests of this department: the quetzal sanctuary is one possible and accessible place to seek them out. In Baja Verapaz, the towns of Salamá, Rabinal and Cubulco are rightly renowned for their traditional fiestas, while San Jerónimo has some interesting historic sights. In Windows 7, Microsoft has updated the sidebar and made it a transparent area that takes the whole Desktop area where gadgets could be placed. You could drag a gadget to the Desktop, to make it expand itself and show extra options. The Sidebar was a line at the right edge of the screen where gadgets where stacked one above another in form of a column. In that version of Windows, gadgets were linked to a special area called "Sidebar". If you are not familiar with Desktop Gadgets, this fancy feature was first introduced in Windows Vista. So, starting in Windows 8, the operating system no longer includes them. The Redmond software giant is now considering Live Tiles in Windows 10 and 8, and "Widgets" in Windows 11 as a robust, secure replacements for the legacy gadgets feature. The bottom of the device also has a threaded universal mount if you want to attach it to a tripod and theres a contacting port for Bose’s Optional charging cradle. The outer casing is made out of metal with milled holes in it, the top is soft touch rubber with concave buttons that all have great tactile feed back, and the bottom has a very grippy rubber which helps keep the speaker in place. I’m very particular when it comes to design and haptic feed from products. It wasn’t just one steak either, we had many of them. I have never paid $65 for a filet mignon that had chewy fat pieces we had to spit out. The tuna nachos were amazing, but that was the end of the highlights. There were errors on the menu’s prices when it came to the steaks, which after a little googling we noticed that the pre set menu they gave us was marked up from the regular menu! When we complained we were given the regular menu price. As soon as we were seated we were handed freshly printed menus. We were never told this but went along with it anyway. 30 min before our dinner we get a call from the restaurant that because of our party size, we would have a limited menu and that we would not be able to split checks by more than equal amounts. We were a large party of 21, we reserved in advance by about 3 weeks. Its outdoor seating and ocean views make it a great place to enjoy a meal while listening to the sounds of the waves. The restaurant boasts a pleasant ambiance and beautiful ocean views from the outdoor patio seating. Cobalt, located in Vero Beach, is an upscale establishment that offers a seafood-focused cuisine with a touch of steakhouse flair. I left mine in a matte finish as I prefer the additional warmth and depth of the matte look. If you want a shinier finish you can seal it with a micro crystalline wax likes Renaissance Wax. If you want a more matte finish let dry and buff it up a bit. And it adds more depth to the brass which is what I really love. The dark wax fills in the natural pitting that occurs in aged brass and seals it from developing more verdigris. I let it sit about 3 minutes then wipe off. Areas that are too dark can be lightened with clear wax. There are many kinds of the menorah brass Israel you’re looking for, from those produced as long ago as the 20th. Frequently made of brass, metal and acrylic, every menorah brass Israel was constructed with great care. Find many varieties of an authentic menorah brass Israel available at 1stDibs. Then using a dark non toxic wax intended for chalk paint, I rub down the brass. Menorah Brass Israel For Sale on 1stDibs. I wiped dry with a lint free cloth and gave it about 30 minutes to make certain all traces of dampness are gone. This mix will remove the verdigris from the metal, I then add a bit of salt to the brass and rub it well into the area to act like an exfoliant because verdigris is somewhat crumbly and thoroughly wipe it off using the wipes again. I have never had it damage any antique.Īfter that I applied a paste of white vinegar and baking soda to the corroded area. To make it shiny bright would devalue and detract from it's beauty.įirst I cleaned it with 7th Generation disinfecting wipes. The brass pierced gallery is wearing an untouched natural patina.( soon to be in our Chairish store.) It has aged appropriately along with the mixed wood marquetry. Natural patina enhances the beauty of a piece, like this close up of an antique French Demilune table. There are some pieces that devalue when you remove the patina. Many antique dealers restore brass to it's bright finish, removing the patina and then apply a commercial solution to darken it again. Most brass tutorials give directions only on bringing brass back to it's super bright finish. I see this a lot on furniture with brass mounts, lamps, chandeliers and light fixtures. Sometimes, a good piece of brass will have just a tiny bit of verdigris, that is the crusty blue green stuff caused by oxidation and tells you corrosion is setting in. Assuming of course that it has had reasonable care throughout it's long life. But brass made in the first quarter of the 20th century and earlier, develops an exquisite patina. Much of the home decor brass commercially available is cheaply made and will not retain it's beauty long. |
